Supplement Review: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey

Bet you thought I’d write a long review, eh?

Although I just reviewed another of Optimum Nutrition’s products recently, here’s another. No, I didn’t finish these in 2 days. I finished these months apart and only getting to the reviews now.

This is a case where less is more.

This is Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard whey, pretty much the best thing on the market today in terms of price, taste, and efficacy (receiving a score of 9.1/10 on Bb.com is no easy task).

The best review is: GET THIS STUFF. You shouldn’t even be messing with another brand of protein right now that I can tell. This stuff is better than the Performance Whey in that it’s 95% free of lactose, so it’s easier on the stomach and digestive system. In this picture here is the Cookies and Creme flavor…it was so tasty I often had to stop myself from drinking too much.

Again, Optimum Nutrition is one of the most stellar companies in the fitness industry. Don’t waste your time on a Protein that costs $45.00, is full of lactose and when you open the canister, it is 2/3 empty. There are so many bad brands, products, companies and chemicals on the market.

The joy in writing posts like these is that I can tell you, the consumer, about the good ones.

Optimum Nutrition? That is a GREAT ONE.

On a personal note, I wanna say something, too. Usually, I hate Whey Protein. I’ve never cared for the taste, for the “gas” caused by it, or the price. This was the very first time I loved Whey. Do you know that feeling of loving a product, and that love for your product makes you want to do right in the gym to reap the maximum effects? That’s this product. Almost every product they serve makes you want to actually go and kill it in the gym and be mindful about what you are eating.

My favorite company right now. Easily.

Empty Whey Canister makes for a very happy, healthy Calvin!

On this Merry Christmas Night

Merry Christmas, Fit Blog friends.

Silent Night

I hope it brings tears to your eyes, like it did mine. Marry Christmas to all. And much, much love to all my new found #FitBlog buddies.

Wednesday “Win”Spiration – Silver Bells

The Christmas Season is upon us. As a gift, you get extra “Wednesday ’Win’spirations!”  A deeply personal post for me, this Christmas song reminds me of my childhood and nights spent in prep for time with family and gifts under the tree. It makes me nostalgic.

Enjoy yourselves as we get the holiday season started!

Wednesday “Win”spiration – Smokey

Wednesday “Win”spiration lasts all week, during Christmas week, didn’t you know?

When asked, I can say that the religious aspects of the holiday are the parts I love the most. Going shopping for gifts stresses me out, and looking at the damage come January to the bank account just makes me want to Facepalm myself.

The religious aspects of the holiday have always been heavily focused on in my family while growing up. If there’s one thing you KNEW you were doing on the holidays, at some time you were you going to be in church praising the LORD. That has still stuck with me even now as an adult. If the holidays were only the secular aspects of Christmas, like most holidays, I wouldn’t even participate.

Having said that, here is one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time. It’s very, very old school, being sung by the great Smokey Robinson himself. But you know, sometimes you need the old school songs. Listening to little Wayne rap out “O Come all ye Faithful” some how takes away from the spiritual parts of this most sacred of holidays for Christians.

I hope you enjoy. It’s a beautiful, beautiful song.

Wednesday “Win”spiration – Little Christmas Tree

I couldn’t resist posting this classic song from 1973. Our house would be blasting motown Christmas carols all month long as a child. This is one of the ones that really always warms my heart during such a cold period of time. Enjoy. I hope you’re not spending the season alone.

Nogaholic

The first time it occurred to me that I had a problem, I was a pretty young guy. There’s something about getting your first taste, your first piece that does something to you. There I sat at the table. One of the things that makes it so weird is that it was my grand mother that poured me my first glass. I thought I’d only take a little. You, just to satisfy all my curiosities since that’s what all the adults around me were doing. Just a little. Yeah. Only a bit.

I only wish that was my first and only glass. Before long, I was getting a few glasses after work. You know, “Just to take the edge off”. Small glasses turned into large goblets of the stuff. I actually remember sneaking the stuff home from my job working as a bagger. I’d save money and when the time came, I’d get me some. I remember the looks that I would get. “You know, I really shouldn’t be selling this to you,” the cashier would say. “But… just don’t make a habit out of it and Be careful”.

Before you knew it, I was in my room, on the floor completely passed out from a drinking binge of my own creation. I distinctly remember waking up one morning with my clothes turned inside out and two empty bottles beside me. I was a little groggy but knew I had to clean up the mess and get into the shower before anyone knew what happened.

It was my dirty little secret.

Soon, it was all I was thinking about. I’d slip myself a little taste during breaks and especially at dinner.

I knew it was a problem when it was the first drink I’d have upon waking up. Plus I had several concerned family members sit me down and try an intervention. “I don’t need your help! I got it under control! Leave me alone!”. But no, they were right…I wasn’t controlling the drinking. The drinking was controlling me. I’d stop by my favorite place for happy hour. Ah yeah…the exotic kind flown in from overseas.

“I’ll have mine on the rocks and make it a double wouldja?”

Then the years went by, and I started to notice the damage it was causing my body. I knew I would have to let it go. I would have to quit. But could I do it?

I did. But every year at this time, I remember. And I can’t help wondering…if I had one more glass…would it really be so bad? I’d be lying if I said the temptation wasn’t there. But let’s be honest.

I’m simply an Egg-nog-aholic who chooses not to drink the stuff. My scale is thankful though my taste buds curse me.

It’s too late for me, but you can still be saved. While we’re in such a great Eggnog mood, click here for one of the best Eggnog Recipes, I’ve found thus far.

Update: here’s Part II of that recipe!

Wednesday “Win”spiration – Temptations Edition

Continuing our holiday theme from last week, here is the version of Silent Night I love the most.

Are you still working out, although there is a chill in the air and you just want to spend some time under the mistletoe? You only have a few days left until the weekend. You can do it!

Wednesday “Win”Spiration – Breath of Heaven

Wednesday “Win”spiration comes twice this week! After seeing this post by Sarah, I had to post an additional vid. I think this song is just beautiful no matter who sings it, but the first time I ever heard it, it was by Donna Summer. It’s refreshing to know that other bloggers have the same taste in music as I do. So go read Sarah’s post, then come back here.

Now you have two versions to pick from… Amy or Donna.

No matter which you like, I hope it helps to get you in the holiday spirit and finish your week strong!
